POLICE working on an operation to combat drug use in Epping and Loughton arrested a man for possession of a controlled substance.

The 23-year-old from Woodford Green was arrested outside Club 15 in York Hill, Loughton, at around 8pm on Friday.

Officers working with drug detection dogs were working with licensees in Epping and Loughton in an operation funded by Epping Forest District Council.

Sgt Matthew Allsop said: "The operation was intended to send a clear and firm message that recreational drug use will not be tolerated and that police, the council, and the licensed premises will work together to jointly tackle it.”

The arrested man remains in custody.
