ARTISTS are exhibiting their work in a furniture shop.
Local artists Saskia Huning and Mark Sowden have turned Blackduke & Cashman, in Grove Road, Walthamstow, into a gallery where their work is currently on display.
Miss Huning has painted a mural onto the shop’s interior walls as well as exhibiting several landscape and still-life drawings.
The specialist decorator said: “My wall paintings are inspired by the historic murals I work on. These may be 16th century paintings in a parish church or 1950s murals.”
Mr Sowden’s exhibition, entitled ‘Con-fig-ur-ation’ features photographs many of which are snapshots of Walthamstow but twisted to become less recognisable.
He said: “I enjoy the way my photographs relate to the objects in the shop echoing their form and colour in an ever-changing pattern as stock is rearranged and sold.”
The display of the artists’ work is free to view in the 1950s-70s furniture store and runs until January 13.
The opening hours are 11am to 5.30pm Thursday and Friday and 11am to 6pm on weekends.
The shop is closed over Christmas between December 24 and January 2.
