A woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago will take part in a night time walking marathon on May 11 to raise money and awareness about the deadly disease.

Daphne Whitehouse, 63, of Marlborough Road in Chingford, will walk with her friend Debbie Macauley, 49, and 15,000 others in the Walk The Walk MoonWalk in London where woman wear fancy-dress, home decorated bras.

A first-time marathon walker, Daphne initially set herself the humble target of raising £300 but far exceeded that when generous donations exceeded her expectations – her total currently sits at £755.

Daphne, who lost her mother to breast cancer and whose father and brother also died from cancer, is three years through her five year recovery program.

The pair will decorate their bras to the theme of ‘Flying to the Moon’.

She is doing the walk because of the support shown by organisers toward Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre and The Haven Breast Cancer Support Centres.

She said she wants people who have been diagnosed to really concentrate on their nutrition.

She said: “So much food these days has chemicals so we need to be eating fresh vegetables, organic if possible.”

The MoonWalk starts and finishes at Battersea Power Station.
