A school student has been selected to give a solo performance at Brentwood Cathedral, next year, after winning a music competition.
Heather Cook, who plays the recorder, was one of nine students who reached the final of the 13th annual Chigwell Young Musician of the Year competition.
Miss Cook was crowned Senior Musician of the Year, whilst Junior Musician of the Year was given to violinist, Yasmin Antoniou.
Thirty-six of Chigwell School’s most talented musicians competed in the competition before the final round in an evening concert, last Thursday.
Jonathan Lipton, Professor of Horn at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, adjudicated the event and selected the winners.
Chigwell School’s Director of Music, Howard Ebden, said: “Chigwell's young musicians shine as bright as the sun.
“We never cease to be tired of what the young people of today are capable of.
“The competition clearly demonstrated a tenacity and perspicacity to reach new heights in musical performance."
Miss Cook will perform in Brentwood Cathedral's annual music concert in March, next year.
