Jobseekers can now apply for up to 40 new positions with Waltham Forest Council.

A new contract with the council’s street cleaning contractor means a host of new jobs are becoming available and the council wants them to go to local people.

The contract has been designed to recycle more of the waste disposed of in litter bins or picked up off the street.

It will also see new equipment being used in the borough, such as a special machine that allows cigarette butts and other small pieces of rubbish to be hoovered up from between parked cars.

The council has worked with the street cleaning contractor, Urbaser, so that special codes can be quoted by Waltham Forest residents so they are given the best chances of getting the jobs.

Vacancies range across various roles, from operatives to supervisor level, and include both full-time and part-time positions, including posts of up to 16 hours a week, plus some apprenticeships.

Councillor Mark Rusling, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Corporate Resources, said: “It’s fantastic news for anyone in the borough who is looking for work.”

The codes for the positions are: Operative – LBWFURB (1), Grounds – LBWFURB (2), Apprenticeships – LBWFURB (3), Drivers – LBWFURB (4), Supervisor – LBWFURB (5).

For further information on these jobs, and to apply for the roles, email Sandra Smart at hr@urbaser.co.uk quoting the codes.

All applications need to be in by 12 noon on Wednesday 15 May.
