A talk on how the river Thames has helped shape London's landscape is being held at a school next week.

The lecture, by archaeologist Jon Cotton, takes place in the main hall at Woodford County High, in Woodford Green High Road, on Monday at 7.45pm.

The 'Rudge Memorial Lecture' event, which is held annually in honour of Dr Ernest Rudge, founder member of the West Essex Archaeological Group, is free.

Mr Cotton, who has spent much of his career working at the Museum of London but is now a freelance archaeological consultant, will explore how the waterway was once split into many channels and islands, in turn influencing the development of the city.
