A young man remains in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted last night.

The 29-year-old is in hospital with head injuries after police were called to Lamorna Close, near to the junction with Hale End Road, Walthamstow, at about 10.25pm.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is currently in police custody.

The road has been closed around the junction with Lamorna Close since the incident occurred, and buses are currently on diversion.

The Guardian understands forensic teams are still on the scene.
