A schoolboy has won an NHS competition after designing an advertising campaign to encourage young people to consider a career in psychiatry.

Oliver O'Reilly, of Woodford Green's Trinity Catholic High School, was the regional winner in the 'Step into the NHS national schools' contest.

The competition aims to promote NHS careers among young people and students were asked to come up with an advert and job description for one of the many different types of jobs available in the health service.

Oliver, who says he is considering a career in the NHS himself, won a £50 Amazon.co.uk voucher.

Dr Paul Doherty, headteacher of Trinity, said: "We are thrilled that Oliver has won this important prize.

"This competition has proven to be a valuable classroom tool, engaging students with the workings of the health service and the different career options available to them.

"The hard work and effort invested in this project reflects their commitment and dedication.”

Oliver added: "I enjoyed taking part in the competition and am now more aware of the jobs available in the NHS. I looked at the role of a psychiatrist as I wanted to learn more about what people do in this role and how they help patients.

"I have learnt a lot about the day-to-day work of a psychiatrist and am seriously considering a job in the NHS when I finish school.”
