A rare chance to marvel at scores of steam-powered engines will be given to visitors at an event this weekend. The Heritage Steam Weekend at the Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey, will see traction engines, tractors, road locomotives and wagons fired up, as well as with live steam engine exhibits.
Set to be bigger than ever before, the annual event on May 18 and 19 will also include a parade of mobile steam engines, and visitors will be asked to crown their favourite.
Creations from some of the biggest names in Victorian and Edwardian steam traction building from the last 150 years will be on display for the event.
Dr Raymond Rowe and his team have been working hard to ensure the success of the weekend, and he says that it is one not to be missed. He said: “We’re all very passionate about Steam Heritage and this weekend gives us the opportunity to let our visitors step back in time and see the supreme craftsmanship and excitement of a bygone era of our country's history.
“There will also be a ‘Thomas’ land train, 7 ¼” railway ride and organs too.” For more information on the event, visit For more information www.royalgunpowdermills.com.
