Tottenham Hotspur legends handed a 5-0 thrashing to a TOWIE-led team of celebrities when the sides met yesterday for a charity match.
The clash at Leyton Orient FC in Brisbane Road, Leyton, ended in defeat for the star-studded side captained by James Argent from The Only Way Is Essex after the ex-pros showed they still have what it takes to win.
The match was put on to raise money for Haven House children’s hospice in High Road, Woodford Green, on its 10th anniversary, as well as to commemorate tBarnet FC and Enfield footballer John Docker, who died last May from a heart attack.
Argent was joined by fellow TOWIE stars Tom Kilbey, James Bennewith, Danny Osbourne and Mark Wright, along with Wright’s brother, Millwall footballer Josh Wright, and their father.
Danny Dyer and members of The Overtones also played but the celebrity side was not enough to stop the likes of Teddy Sheringham, Mark Falco, Justin Edinburgh and Darren Anderton claiming victory.
But Argent said: “I jumped at the chance to play in this match and was so proud to be team captain, it was an amazing day for everyone who took part and came to watch the match.
“Ultimately we were all there for Haven House, a local cause that I’m really passionate about.”
Mike Palfreman, chief executive of the hospice, added: “We were delighted to see so many high profile celebrities on the pitch, it meant a lot to everyone at Haven House.
“All money raised from the event will help to support our vital work with local life-limited children and families in this, our 10th birthday year.”
Haven House hope to have counted the amount raised by tomorrow.
