Police are appealing for information after a woman was killed in a car crash last night.
It happened on the A12 near Newbury Park Tube Station at 11.10pm.
Police say red Vauxhall Corsa and a silver BMW collided on the eastbound carriageway of the road.
A Met spokesman said: "At this early stage it is believed the Corsa was travelling west along the A12 and, as the car turned across the eastbound carriageway, it was in collision with the BMW."
The Corsa driver, a 29-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her family have been informed but she has not been named by police.
The BMW driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.
A Met spokesman added: "Anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events leading up to the incident, is asked to contact the Road Death Investigation Unit based at Chadwell Heath on 0208 597 4874."
