Sports fans in Redbridge have been urged to get their blood pressure checked ahead of a big weekend of action on the pitch.

This Friday marks World Hypertension Day and doctors across the borough are urging people to get their blood pressure checked out.

Dr Anil Mehta, who chairs the Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “With a busy week of sport ahead, many hearts are going to be beating faster so there is no better time to get checked out.

“Whether your team is scrapping for a Champions League place or battling for glory in the cricket Premier League, do your heart a favour and arrange to get your blood pressure checked.”

It is estimated that more than a quarter of people over 16 in Redbridge have high blood pressure (hypertension).

Left untreated, high blood pressure increases your chances of having a stroke or heart attack.

The NHS offers a free health check, including a blood pressure test, for anyone aged 40-75.
