Residents are being offered the chance to tour a hospital's Clinical Research Unit to find out more about medical research and how to take part in it.

There will be two tours at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone on Monday, the first being held between 10am and 10.30am and the second at 3pm until 3.30pm.

Barts Health Associate Director for Engagement and Diffusion, Neeta Patel, said: "The aim of our research is to find better ways of looking after our patients and keeping people healthy.

“We are hosting these events so that members of the public can come and discover the different ways in how they can get involved. Patients are not the only people who can input into trials all.

"We don’t just want to recruit patients – healthy people can also get involved in helping us produce information for patients in a clear way, for example.”

Places are limited and must be pre-booked by emailing communications@bartshealth.nhs.uk or calling 020 7363 8857.

There will also be stalls on the same theme at the hospital on Monday to mark International Clinical Trials day.

The stalls will be open between 9am and 5pm and will be located at the Outpatients reception, the hospital's restaurant at junction 5 and at the Antenatal clinic reception on the ground floor of the maternity building.
