A grandmother has celebrated her centenary with family and friends.

Mary Nelson turned 100 last week in Forest Drive Residential Home in Leytonstone, where she got a card from the Queen and a big cake from her family and other residents.

Manager of the home in Forest Drive East, Naseem Diwan, said: “It was a great day and a lovely celebration.

“Mary had such a great time. She had champagne with her family and got lots of cards. She’s been here since January and she is very well liked here.

"She is our oldest resident and we're very proud of her."
