An ‘old-fashioned’ school fete drew big crowds at the weekend and raised plenty of money in the process.
Oakdale School in Oakdale Road, South Woodford, held the fete on Saturday.
Rena Pathak, co-chair of the school’s PTA, said: “It’s nice to have big fairground rides and the like, but there isn’t the most money about so we decided to go right back to basics and make the fete as old-fashioned as possible.”
Families enjoyed egg and spoon and sack races, a coconut shy, apple bobbing and a visit from the mayor who judged a children’s hat competition.
Mrs Pathak said: “The straw hats came from a pound shop and we just told the children to come up with their own designs.
“There were some fantastic entries, I loved Maya Swani’s Medusa hat!”
The fete raised around £1,500.
