Six men are to take part in a cycling challenge in memory of a popular postwoman who lost her life to cancer.

Elaine Glenister, a well-known figure in Roydon sadly lost her battle to the disease in January, this year.

Mrs Glenister, 45, was treated by nurses at Hastingwood’s St Clare Hospice and to thank them for all that they did for her, the team will ride 100kms across London at night.

Stuart Brighty who will lead the sextet, all from Harlow, across the capital city says that he and all of the others are determined to help the hospice.

He said: “My family sadly lost Elaine, a dear friend, to cancer back in January. She spent her last days at the Hospice and from what her partner told us they made them as comfortable as they could have possibly been.

“Paul's grandad was recently at the Hospice and John’s mum is a frequent visitor to the centre.

“Obviously another reason is that it's local to us all and one way or another most of us have or will be touched at some point in our lives by the great work that hospices do throughout the country.”

John Lellow, Paul Squirrel, Gary and Ashley Thomson and Luke Parsons hope to raise £2,000 when they take on the challenge on June 8, into June 9.

Around 4000 people are expected to attend the event, raising money for a variety of good causes.

Anyone who wants to support the team can donate via uk.virginmoneygiving.com and entering any one of the six cyclists’ names.
