A small shopping parade next to a green will benefit from £150,000 of improvements.
Redbridge council has secured the money from Transport for London to improve the street scene around Nightingale Green in Wanstead.
Under plans approved at a meeting of the council’s area one committee on Monday night, seven new lampposts will be installed to improve lighting.
Paving surrounding the shopping parade will also be upgraded and double yellow lines will be installed at the corner of Nightingale Lane and the junction with Eastway to provide safer sightlines for traffic.
Lucy McMahon from the Nightingale pub said: “It is a bit run down looking but we do what we can to keep the green looking nice.
“Everyone will be glad to see the area get a bit of an uplift.”
