A new scheme is being launched giving residents the chance to buy second-hand bicycles at low prices while also supporting the homeless.
The project is being run by the The Salvation Army with funding and support from Redbridge Council.
People with unwanted or out-grown bikes can donate them at the Chigwell Road Reuse and Recycle Centre in Woodford Green.
They are then given to the 'Recycles' group in Ilford, which provides training and work experience to homeless people, which will then refurbish the bikes before selling them on.
A pilot of the scheme launches next month with the full project expected to begin in the autumn.
The first bike sale is on Saturday June 8 between 10am and 2pm at the Ilford Salvation Army building, 15 Clements Road, Ilford.
