Singers will put on their walking boots in a bid to fundraise for a concert celebrating 100 years since the birth of composer Benjamin Britten.

The Valentine Singers, who have a branch that meets in St John’s church, Buckhurst Hill, plan to walk the Suffolk Coastal Path near Britten’s home next week to raise money for the Epping concert.

The performance of Britten’s Cantata Misericordium, which is due to take place at St John’s church in Epping on June 22, will be supported by the Jericho Ensemble and the Writtle Singers.

Valentine Singers member Kathleen Beaumont said: “A concert of this calibre is costly to put on and so, as part of our fund-raising, we are having the sponsored walk.

“This concert is rather special in that it celebrates both Britten's centenary and the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross, as well as being part of the Epping Festival.”
