A suspected terrorist was arrested soon after giving a TV interview about his friendship with the man being held on suspicion of murdering a British soldier.
Abu Nusaybah, 31, who was a member of the radical muslim group Waltham Forest Muslims in 2010, was taken into custody at 9.30pm yesterday - minutes after appearing on the BBC's Newsnight programme.
He is being held on suspicion of commissioning, preparing or instigating an act of terrorism.
Police subsequently executed search warrants at two residential addresses in east London.
Mr Nusaybah had told newsnight of his friendship with Michael Adebolajo, 28, who is suspected of killing Drummer Lee Rigby outside Woolwich barracks on Wednesday.
He said Mr Adebolajo had recently rejected a request by MI5 to work for them.
Mr Nusaybah, who described the killing of Drummer Lee Rigby as unjustified, also said Mr Adebolajo claimed to have been tortured by security forces during a trip to Kenya.
