An extraordinary meeting of the council is to be held on Tuesday following the formation of a political breakaway group.
The Redbridge Independent Group was set-up by three disgruntled ex-Labour councillors at the weekend, with former Conservative group member Cllr Harold Moth also joining them several days later.
Under council rules some committees at the authority will now have to be shaken-up to ensure they give minority representation to the new party.
The Conservatives, who have 29 councillors, and the Liberal Democrats, who have seven representatives, hold the balance of power at the council with a coalition.
Labour has 21 councillors and there are two other independents.
But Cllr Moth told the Guardian earlier that the new group was hopeful that more councillors will also join the breakaway group, with efforts underway to persuade the remaining independents.
The full council meeting will take place in the council chamber of Ilford Town Hall, in the High Road, at 7.15pm.
