Two teenagers who appeared in court on Friday have been released on bail to appear at Harlow Magistrates Court on August 6.
The teens, both from Chingford, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, had their case heard at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Friday.
A 17-year-old boy was charged with racially or religiously aggravated common assault or beating and possession of the Class B drug cannabis.
The teenager is said to have assaulted a man in Loughton on May 13.
A 17-year-old girl was charged with racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress through words or writing against the same man in Loughton.
