A pressure group will stage an anti-fracking demonstration outside the Town Hall this month.
Wanstead and Woodford Friends of the Earth will protest against the controversial drilling technique on October 19, between 11am and 1pm.
They want Redbridge Council to outlaw future fracking in the borough.
Their protest comes in response to the possibility of the government opening up new areas to fracking later this year.
The group will also be running a stall in Ilford town centre distributing information to residents.
They say shale gas contributes to climate change and can contaminate local water supplies.
A council spokesman said: "The Council has had no enquiries from any applicants wanting to extract shale gas from land within Redbridge. Due to this, we have not formulated a policy on fracking. We will continue to keep informed of any developments so that we are fully prepared if any interest emerges."
