Drunk DJs, injured photographers and cake-covered brides sound like a nightmare to deal with for anyone, but for one man, it is what he handles best.
From lavish ceremonies to intimate affairs, Jonathon Waterman has made a career out of planning weddings, hosting ceremonies and awards shows, and turning mayhem into magic.
The Chigwell man qualified as a Master of Ceremonies six years ago, and has never looked back.
He said: “I was at a friend’s wedding and it was all going wrong. The best man asked me for my help and I pulled everyone together.
“One of the guests could DJ and another was a photographer. I remembered things that I had seen at earlier weddings and organised a candle lighting ceremony.
“Afterwards people said that I should do it as a living.”
Following the excitement of the day Mr Waterman, then an IT software salesman, decided to go and train as a Master of Ceremonies.
Now, he has his own award winning business.
The 42-year-old toastmaster was recently awarded the historical Freedom of the City in recognition of his services.
Mr Waterman of Ludhan Close is hired to ensure the smooth running of an event.
From announcing people into a room, to unique touches such as card writing ceremonies, as well as doing up button holes and holding up drunk relatives, Mr Waterman says that he enjoys every part of his job.
He said: “I love it.
“I work closely with the bride and groom or host so that they get exactly what they want.
“I take the stressful part away so that everybody else can enjoy it.”
