A warning has been issued for drivers to take care around Epping Forest following the death of two teenagers on the A10.

During October deer engage in mating battles which can make them less aware of their surroundings.

Because of this they often leap out into the road, Epping Forest Council has said.

Two teenage girls died after the car they were travelling in struck a deer which jumped in front of them between Ware and Puckeridge in Hertfordshire .

According to experts at the National Deer-Vehicle Collisions Project, the most dangerous period is between sunset and midnight.

Drivers are advised not to over swerve to avoid a deer but hit it with full control of the car if a crash is inevitable and use full beams if there is no oncoming traffic.

Throughout the rutting season dog walkers and people visiting forests are asked to take extra care not to disturb the animals.
