A local author’s second book is going to be very different from her first, she says.

Jaylen Grace, a former personal assistant to the Rolling Stones, published Omzak the Space Cat Warrior last year, a book she says had personal development themes for children throughout.

But her new book, Porridge the Two Faced Parrot, is going for out-and-out humour.

“Although Omzak is a very humorous book, it’s got elements about life, friendship, morals and arrogance,” the 60-year-old of Hale End Road, Highams Park, said.

“I wanted Porridge to be something people would laugh at from page one, and it’s got people in stitches already.”

To be published early next month, Porridge is about a cheeky parrot, smart enough to be a “little Einstein” who can imitate anything.

Her first book was inspired by her own life experiences, including a three-year stint working for Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, but she said Parrot is a result of listening to her inner child.

“I’m not a myster writer, a crime writer or any of those things. I love writing comedy,” she said.

“It’s a hilarious rollercoaster ride through nonsense because I just love kids’ minds and love being in a kids’ world.”

She also has a second Porridge book in the works, Porridge Goes to Summer Camp, which should be published in a year.
