Epping Forest District Council is set to splash out £10,000 on replacing meeting room tables.
At a cabinet meeting last night councillors agreed to spend the cash on 24 tables in two committee meeting rooms.
Cllr Gary Waller justified the move by claiming replacements must fit in with the architecture of the building, and that it would cost as much to repair them.
Only Cllr Jennie Hart raised a concern over the price, asking if the council would consider using a cheaper material.
The cash is set to spent in the next financial year following a final inspection.
