Two adults and a child were rescued from the first floor of a building last night after a van crashed into a shop front and ruptured a gas pipe.
Thirty residents in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, living near the junction with Leyton Green Road, were also evacuated as a precaution.
There was no fire at the premises and nobody was injured as a result of the crash.
The fire brigade were called at 1.00am this morning and remained at the scene until 4.00am.
The supply to the pipe was cut off by the National Grid.
