Leytonstone’s Labour councillors staged a protest against the proliferation of betting shops this morning.
Around 50 residents joined councillors at a demonstration after an application for a betting shop at 28 Church Lane was submitted to the council.
Councillor Clyde Loakes said: “After a new planning application was submitted for another William Hill outlet residents think four betting shops in the centre is enough, we don’t need a fifth.
“The freehold of the site is owned by a charitable trust, Bourne United Charities, based in Lincolnshire, whose mission is to alleviate poverty.
“We’ve launched a lobbying campaign of the trust.”
Bourne United Charities have been approached for comment.
