People living close to where a woman was found stabbed to death have said there has been a growing problem with anti-social behaviour in the area.
The 25-year-old victim, thought to be Romanian, was found with stab wounds in Ilford Lane, close to Chicken and Pizza 4 U, at 12.15am this morning.
She died 2.00am at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
A 65-year-old woman, who lives opposite the shop and asked not to be named, saw ambulances arrive at the scene and said she wasn’t surprised someone had been seriously hurt.
“I suspected the victim was dead as soon as I saw the scene. All I could see were the feet of the body on the ground so I couldn’t even tell if it was a man or a woman, but I could see there was no sign of life,” she said.
The woman claims there is no police patrols late at night and anti-social behaviour was increasingly common.
She said: “I have been living here for over 40 years and have never known it to be this bad.
“I have also been targeted myself, with people throwing eggs at mine and my neighbours’ doors.
“Something should have been done a long time ago before something like this happened.”
A 55-year-old man, who also lives opposite the shop, said: “I don’t know what is happening to this area. People just aren’t going to want to live here anymore.
“The police do a good job but it is now too little too late.”
The victim is yet to be identified and there have been no arrests.
