A pie and mash shop in Walthamstow is to be given Grade II heritage status today.
L Manze Eel, Pie and Mash Shop, in High Street, Walthamstow, has been serving the iconic east London meal since 1929, when owner Luigi Manze employed architect Herbert Wright to rebuild it in its present form.
Heritage Minister Ed Vaizey will visit the shop today with representatives of English Heritage to make the announcement.
The shop was listed due to its design and historical interest.
A report gave special credit to the shop front’s gilt lettering, white-tiled interior, seating booths and marble counters.
