The prosecution of a 73-year-old Woodford Green man charged with conspiring to hack the voicemails of celebrities, crime victims and others begins today.
Stuart Kuttner, of Broomhill Walk, the ex-managing editor of the News of the World (NotW) newspaper, faces one charge of conspiring to illegally access voicemails between October 3 2000 and August 9 2006.
He is on trial alongside Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, both former NotW editors, and five others at the Old Bailey.
The trial is expected to last up to six months, however Mr Kuttner has been excused from attending the trial every day due to health risks.
The jury, chosen yesterday and made up of nine women and three men, were told he had a history of heart attacks and a brain stem stroke.
He resigned from the newspaper in July 2009 before he was arrested and then bailed in August 2011.
He was formally charged in July 2012.
All defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
