Long awaited work to repair a bridge has begun.
Work on the bridge in Roding Lane, Buckhurst Hill, has been delayed since December 2012 due to several setbacks.
Essex Highways had suggested that negaotiation with BT and Vergin Media had been to blame for hold-ups, which was refuted by the companies.
The highway authority also admitted poor planning and communication as well as vandalism at the site, had prolonged delays.
Roadworks and temporary traffic lights at the site have closed one lane and caused congestion since the start of the year.
Essex Highways started the works on Monday and are now aiming to complete the job earlier than their most recent estimate of January 2014.
