Two charities are calling on Waltham Forest Council to provide free school meals for all primary school children.
Charities 4in10 and The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) will hold an event on Monday to make the case for free school meal provision.
They claim families in Islington, where free school meals are funded by the council, save up to £380 per year, per child.
The groups also say free school meals can help eradicate stigma attached to children of low-income families receiving free school meals.
According to endchildpoverty.org.uk, Waltham Forest has the 10th highest level of child poverty in London and is the 27th most deprived borough in the country.
The meeting takes place between 1.30pm and 3pm at the Lloyd Park children’s centre in Lloyd Park, Walthamstow.
