Loose pieces of lead on a roof have caused an area to be cordoned off to protect the public.

Lopping Hall in High Road, Loughton, had several sections on its clock tower roof dislodged during this week's high winds, leaving lead hanging over a surrounding walkway.

Epping Forest District Council had instructed the trustees to cordon off the area below the tower to prevent injury to people or damage to property below.

The lead is set to be removed tomorrow morning and a full repair is expected early next week.

Chairman of Lopping Hall, Chris Pond, said: “We closed the footpath immediately and we will cone off the parking bays tonight.

“Our main concern is the public’s safety but we have been assured that unless there are strong winds the lead is secure.”
