The collapse of around 100 yards of scaffolding on Monday will not be investigated by the Health and Safety Executive.
The national independent watchdog for work related health and safety concerns confirmed today that because there were no injuries they would not take any action.
A spokeswoman also said the decision had been made after the watchdog made contact with Waltham Forest Council’s building control department.
Strong winds caused the scaffolding outside a parade of shops on Francis Road, Leyton, to collapse onto the road, falling on top of cars and across the pavement and road.
The collapse happened just before 7am.
Shopkeepers and residents say the area is busy and it was lucky no one was injured.
The scaffolding was being used by council contractors to refurbish shop fronts.
The business which erected the scaffolding on the opposite side of the road, Dragon Scaffolding, declined to comment.
No other scaffolding collapses were reported on the day.
The council is expected to provide an update later today.
