A salesman has been fined more than £1,000 after misleading customers over the quality of his cars.

Adnan Khalid, 29, director of Bluegate Cars Ltd in Rosebank Road, Walthamstow, sold a car on September 2 last year saying it was a “perfect family car” that “would give very good service”.

But he had also included fine print in the vehicle’s sales invoice saying the vehicle was not fit for purpose.

Khalid pleaded guilty to making false representations at his shop and misrepresenting a warranty, at Thames Magistrates' Court.

He was fined £1,050 and ordered to pay costs of £750 and compensation to the customer of £622.87. 

Khalid had previously been warned by Waltham Forest Council's trading standards team in January last year over misleading statements.

Trading standards officers conducted a criminal investigation into Khalid after the car’s buyer flagged up the purchase.

The customer also alleged they had been deceived by Khalid in relation to the after-sale customer assistance.

It stated on the car warranty application that there was a “three star, six-month, £1,000” policy, but in fact the policy was two star and not upgraded to three stars until over three months later.

The customer had also tried to get the car’s faults fixed but found they were not covered by warranty.
