Two brothers from Walthamstow have been named among the nation’s top Doctor Who “superfans”.

Doctor Who Adventures magazine chose Elliot and Joe Collins, aged eight and 11, after a nationwide hunt for the UK’s biggest Doctor Who fan aged between five and 13.

The brothers, of Beresford Road, won the accolade after sending in a comic strip explaining why they fit the bill.

In their comic, when asked by a Dalek why they like Doctor Who so much they say that they think the programme is funny, exciting and sometimes scary.

Joe, a Year 7 student at Frederick Bremer School in Siddeley Road, Walthamstow, said: “I feel pretty special.

“There are a lot of people who like Doctor Who around the world and in Europe as well. Just being one of them is great.”

When asked what made him and his brother superfans he said they had a lot of DVDs, books, toys and magazines.

In their comic they also told the Dalek that they had been to a lot of Doctor Who events this year.

Elliot, who is in Year 4 at Chapel End Junior Academy in Roberts Road, Walthamstow, said: “I don’t know what I like so much about Doctor Who, it’s just really good.”

Mum Dawn Stafford said she was very proud.

“They started watching the 11th doctor and since then we’ve bought some of the older DVDs,” she added.

“They’ve got a lot more to explore.”

Natalie Barnes, editor of Doctor Who Adventures magazine, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the huge amount of imaginative and creative entries from our brilliant readers.

“Doctor Who is an inspiration to children all over the UK and we love Elliot and Joe’s entry.”
