A school has unveiled a £1000 mosaic designed and made by students.
The students were asked to show their interpretations of what school meant to them.
Art teacher Dave Howes, at St Johns RC School in Turpins Lane, Woodford Bridge, donated his £500 prize money to the cost of building the mosaic after winning the Jack Petchey Leader Award in 2012.
The school, which looks after children with special needs, raised the further £500 by hosting a bingo night.
Each of the 100 pupils at the school had an input into the design and creation of the project.
Pupils were given sections of the mosaic to put together, before it was mounted on the wall in the summer holidays.
In total the mosaic is made up of 24,000 2cm tiles and reflects the diversity of the school.
The work's main themes include a praying child, reflecting the school's Catholic ethos, a blue and yellow ribbon to represent Downs Syndrome, a purple flame to represent the Epilepsy Foundation, and rainbows and sunshine representing hope, good fortune and aspirations.
