A documentary about the restoration of 17th century church bells is set to be shown by a collective of filmmakers.
Arthur Gatcum, 80, of Gwynne Park Avenue in Woodford Green, has made a short film about St Christopher’s Church in Willingale, Essex.
Bells hadn’t rung at the church since the 1940s due to rotting timber and frayed ropes, while the bells, three of which date back to the 17th century, were also in need of repair.
Villagers secured cash from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Mr Gatcurn’s film follows the restoration work.
The bells were originally cast at the Whitechapel Bell Foundary, where they were also sent for repair.
The Wanstead and Woodford Movie Makers, which is 76 years old, will show the film on November 15 at St Paul’s Church in Chigwell Road, Woodford Bridge.
The showing will begin at 8pm and tickets, which can be booked by calling 0208 504 433, are £6.
