The population of Waltham Forest drops by more than 20 per cent during a normal working day, it has been revealed.

Data from the 2011 census, released by the Office for National Statistics, shows that of all London boroughs, Waltham Forest sees the fifth highest number of people leaving to work.

A total of 41,800 people out of a population of 190,000 commute elsewhere.

The population of neighbouring Redbridge shrinks by a similar 22.9 per cent, while only 7.9 per cent of Hackney residents commute elsewhere.

The City of London’s population increases by 5,580.4 per cent during a working day.
