A man has been charged for the murder of a woman in Ilford who was stabbed to death.

Farooq Shah, 20, of Station Road, Forest Gate, was charged last night with the murder of Romanian national Mariana Popa on Ilford Lane on October 29.

He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on November 9.

Ms Popa was treated for stab injuries at the scene but later died due to shock and excessive bleeding.

Police earlier this week released a CCTV image of a man they wanted to question in connection with the killing.
