A blue heritage plaque has been placed on the house where an acclaimed jazz clarinettist once lived.
Born and raised in Walthamstow, Dave ShDave Shepherd, 84, started playing at 16 and was a leading member of the The Great British Jazz Band (GBJB).
Mr Shepherd, whose career spans more than 50 years, has been described by fellow jazz musician and co-founder of GBJB Digby Fairweather as Britain's greatest swing clarinettist since 1948.
The blue plaque was erected at his birthplace in Brookdale Road, Walthamstow and Mr Shepherd was at the unveiling of the plaque.
He said: "I feel very honoured and grateful. It’s just a shame there isn’t more of my family around to see it.
"I lived in the borough until I was 18 when I joined the army."
Mr Shepherd lived in the house for four years.
The now retired jazz-player lived at two other addresses in the borough before moving to the south coast.
