Whenever anyone mentions kebabs, the majority of people picture booze fuelled dining, cheap meat and a bad hangover.
But it may come as a surprise to know then that every Friday and Saturday night hundreds of people are battling just to get a seat in a Chigwell restaurant to sample the official Best Kebabs in Britain.
Dylan Hunt’s hard work paid off on Tuesday when it was announced that the Sheesh restaurant was voted as the best fine dining Turkish restaurant in Britain.
Colin Hunt, the manager, says that his son has put his heart and soul into his business.
He said: “He’s an East end boy and he’s showing the Turkish how to cook a proper kebab.
“He oversees everything in the kitchen, every plate, he doesn’t leave.
“We only use the best cuts of meat here and nothing is frozen it’s all cooked fresh.”
The popular celebrity hangout, hailed as Mark Wright and Alan Sugar’s favourite eatery, is worlds apart from normal Turkish restaurants.
With gold leaf decor, quirky carpets and open plan kitchen the glam venue even boasts a VIP suite which comes with its own butler and a minimum £1,000 spend.
In the High Road restaurant standards are everything, according to the manager, even the cutlery is gold plated.
Sheesh was first opened in Buckhurst Hill in 2008 but quickly outgrew the building.
Dylan Hunt began life working on a market stall with his father and is now the owner of Sheesh and the Kebub pub in West Bromich.
Colin Hunt believes that the business’ success is down to Dylan’s dedication and his drive to create a unique dining experience.
“You can’t just come here and have a drink it’s for diners only so people like that,” He said.
“Turkish food is very simple but we make sure that everything is different. The chips are triple cooked, the bread is all made fresh on site and we make sure that service is perfect.”
