Two Danish siblings have bought a European model of bookshop and cafe bar to Leytonstone.
Karen and Anders Bundgaard moved their All You Read Is Love shop into the High Road on Tuesday.
Open from 10am to 10pm, it will be open until at least March and people can buy books while enjoying a coffee and cake.
The pair, who grew up in Aarhus, Denmark and moved to England eight years ago, have a temporary licence to sell alcohol this and next weekend and they are currently applying for a permanent one.
Anders, 34, said: “There is a real living room feel to it and it is a common combination in mainland Europe to have a bookshop and cafe.
“While there are cafes in bookshops here, they feel separate and we want to bring it together.
“There is a Scandinavian theme to the books here but there is work from all over the world, there is certainly books that you would not find at popular bookshops.
Karen completed a Masters in Creative Writing at Glasgow University and she believes Leytonstone is the place to make the venture work.
The 31-year-old said: “We have always talked about bringing this model of a bookshop and bar to London, Leytonstone definitely has the right vibe for this venture.
“We love literature so me and Anders wanted to find some way of spending our lives sell books we enjoy ourselves.
“There has been an incredible reaction since we moved in, so busy and people have been saying how this area needs something like this.”
A number of literary events are due to be announced at the venue in the coming weeks.
