There were 14 arrests as the English Defence League (EDL) marched through Walthamstow today (May 9).
Police made the arrests during the EDL rally and a counter demonstration by both Unite Against Facism (UAF), London Anti-Fascists and 'We are Waltham Forest'.
Around 150 members of the EDL assembled outside Blackhorse Road Station at 12pm, and marched towards Waltham Forest town hall, Forest Road with a large police escort.
The group held speeches outside the town hall for an hour, 100 metres away from opposing factions, before being escorted back to the station.
One man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and 13 people have been arrested on suspicion of a variety of offences under the public order act 1986.
Nancy Taaffe from Trade Union Socialist Coalition (TUSC), said that two of her supporters were arrested after refusing to move off the streets outside the town hall.
They are being held in Wood Green police station.
She said: "We are upset because our members were just exercising their democratic right to oppose the EDL.
"We think the community should be allowed to mobilise and to show them they are not welcome here.”
Two people injured during the demonstrations were treated by London Ambulance Service at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.
The Metropolitan Police have been approached for further comment.
