Curators at the William Morris Gallery are searching for a new artist in residence who can offer a fresh perspective on Morris’s life and work.

The three month residency, which takes place this autumn, gives experienced artists the time, space and support to develop new work.

Now in its third year, the residency has been extended due to the funding from Arts Council England.

As well as the opportunity to explore the Gallery’s archives and collection, the successful artist will receive a fee of £3,000 plus a budget for events and materials.

They will also receive expert advice to explore new ideas, develop their marketing skills and engage with the public.

Chris Robbins, Leader of Waltham Forest council, said the team at the gallery are looking for proposals that approach Morris and his legacy 'in new ways'.

"The successful artist could take inspiration from any aspect of Morris’s life and work, from his approach to craft and design to his ideas about the environment and social equality", he said.

"Resident artists are always encouraged to experiment and take risks – the bolder the better!”
