There is currently no service at all on a busy overground line owing to an "electrical fault" at Hackney Downs.

Commuters experienced severe delays this morning following technical problems at an overground station.

Several rush-hour trains were cancelled and delayed on London Overground's (LO) Chingford to Liverpool St line owing to "congestion".

According to LO's Twitter feed, the 7.48am and 8.07am into Chingford was delayed by 12 minutes, the 8.27am into Liverpool St was cancelled and the 9.03am and 9.35am trains into Chingford were cancelled.

There has been conflicting information by TfL and Network Rail as to the cause of the delays, with TfL saying it is a "faulty train in the Hackney Downs area" and Network Rail describing it as "electrical supply problems" at Hackney Downs.

A spokeswoman for TfL, said: "An electrical problem at Hackney Downs has caused a train to stall.

"There is currently no service from Chingford to Liverpool St."

Network Rail has said engineers are on route to fix the problem and delays of up to 30 minutes is expected to continue until at least 12.30pm.

Overground commuters have complained of constant delays and disruption to their journeys ever since TfL took over the line from Abellio Greater Anglia on May 31.

TfL blamed the setbacks on problems with old trains inherited from Abellio.
