A school made famous for its 2014 fly-on-the-wall Channel 4 documentary has been upgraded by Ofsted.
Frederick Bremer School, in Siddeley Road, Walthamstow, was judged as ‘good’ in all categories by the education watchdog in a report released this week.
The school had been rated as ‘requires improvement’ in the last inspection in October 2013.
Millions of viewers tuned in to watch the BAFTA nominated series about life at the school entitled Educating The East End.
The series gave an insight into the lives of teachers, pupils and support staff at the Walthamstow school.
This new successful inspection result comes after the school saw a significant improvement in results last year.
In the English Baccalaureate there was an increase of 9 per cent in English language with 78 per cent of pupils making good or better than expected progress.
Results also remained high in maths with 64 per cent of pupils achieving top grades, 88 per cent for languages and 78 per cent in history.
Inspectors praised headteacher Jenny Smith for improvements made at the school.
The Ofsted report says: “The headteacher, very well supported by other senior leaders and the governing body, has taken the school on a very long and extremely challenging journey to improve its effectiveness.
“They have worked together as a cohesive team to overcome the challenges faced.
“As a result, the school is a now a better place.
“The new and ambitious culture of high expectations has replaced mediocrity.”
Headteacher, Ms Smith, said the school is delighted to have its progress confirmed by the education watchdog.
She said: “Over the last three years, we have worked relentlessly to improve standards and expectations in the school.
“Our results are improving year on year, and we are in the top 25 per cent of schools nationally for progress.
“We have an exceptional school, ambitious pupils, supportive parents and talented staff within an inclusive and diverse community.
“In a very challenging climate for school improvement, and against a backdrop of ongoing challenge and change, we have demonstrated that community education is successful, valued and instrumental in giving our young people the very best chances to succeed.
“Our Ofsted inspection was a very interesting, albeit rigorous experience.
“The team confirmed that they fully expect Bremer to become an 'outstanding' school in the next few years and we are very excited about the journey ahead.”
