Takeaway owners have been fined after being found guilty of failing to store and dispose of its waste correctly.
MHY Limited, trading as Indiano Pizza, in St James Street, Walthamstow, was fined £912 at Thames Magistrates Court on March 11.
Waltham Forest council officers previously warned the takeaway that it was failing to control waste in line with the Environment Protection Act 1990.
The neighbourhoods team discovered earlier this year that the shop was making the area look a mess and attracting others to dump rubbish nearby.
The business was given a formal notice requiring them to use a proper bin and to stop using commercial refuse sacks as they were not suitable for food waste.
It was also given advice on how to store and dispose of waste correctly so it would not cause a nuisance to the area.
The owners were warned that they faced enforcement action if they failed to comply with the notice.
But they did not heed this warning and when the council officer returned to the shop he found the takeaway was still creating a filthy mess outside.
As a formal notice had already been given the council proceeded to prosecute the business.
The council’s neighbourhoods team carries out regular checks on businesses across the borough to ensure they are storing and disposing of waste correctly.
It added that it would seek to prosecute any business that shirks its responsibilities around dealing with waste.
